Grammy Awards 2016

Bill Charlap with Tony Bennett

Win Grammy

Bill Charlap, the pianist who captivated the audience at his concert on October 19, 2014 at the Madison Congregational Church, sponsored by the Madison Winter Club, has won a Grammy with Tony Bennett for best traditional pop album, “The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern.”
Charlap, in accepting the award, was quick to say that he didn’t do it on his own. “I want to thank God, I want to thank my beautiful wife Renee Rosnes,” Charlap said; Rosnes, a pianist, also appears on the album. More thanks went to, among others, his musical colleagues bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington; his late father, Broadway songwriter Moose Charlap (“Peter Pan”); songwriter Jerome Kern for writing “songs that will live forever,” and of course, “the one and only” Bennett, and his son producer Danny Bennett.
