We are always busy planning both our member Club activities and community events. Our volunteer work in the community is an important aspect of our membership. Coming in 2017 are a number of community and organization events that will offer you the opportunity to visit our Club, meet our members and participate in charitable donations.
MWC members will be bringing in non-perishable food items or cash donations to benefit the Madison Food Pantry at the April 11th Chef’s Dinner. Our members have always been very generous in the past and we look forward to doing so in 2015. The MWC Tag Sale of August 3rd to benefit the Madison Food Pantry was a huge success. The Madison Winter Club
We have a group of avid readers who want to share their ideas about what they have read. A Madison Winter Book Club was formed several years ago. These readers are quite anxious to read books in different genres. Thus we try to read non-fiction, fiction, biography, poetry, short stories, and classics. Many of the members have said that they probably would not have read our selections, but did because of the book club and were happy to expand their reading choices.
One of the world’s premiere pianists, Bill Charlap has performed and record with many of the leading artists of our time, ranging from Jazz masters Phil Woods and Wynton Marsalis to singers Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand. Since 1997 he has led the Bill Charlap Trio with bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington, now recognized as one of our premier jazz trios.
We sponsored a Membership Art and Crafts Exhibit and Sale at the Club on Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21, from 10 AM to 4 PM. The event provided the community a view of the wide range of talents and interests among the membership, as well as provided our very talented artists, photographers and crafters an opportunity to show and sell their work.
